ArtHouse Willows was created out of my love of basket weaving. I’ve always had a fascination for this ancient craft and been in awe of the skills involved to make beautiful yet practical items for use in everyday living. With its rich heritage and long history, it is wonderful to see it enjoying something of a revival and finding it still has a place in our modern world.
My journey into basket weaving began with a gift voucher for a “Make a Basket Workshop” – a lovely present from my daughters, and that was the beginning of my long love affair with the craft.
Using predominantly home grown willow from our plot in the heart of Rutland, I aim to work in harmony with nature, creating traditional and contemporary baskets and innovative pieces, in a largely sustainable way.
My contemporary sculptural lamps, developed whilst studying for the City & Guilds Level 2 in Basketry, add another dimension and suggest a crossover with my other work. As a professional photographer I am used to working with the play of light; it is one of the main elements to consider and this is also very true when working on the contemporary lamp designs.
